Dell Inspiron ” – not able to adjust screen brightness in Mint – Linux Forum –

This is the third time I’ve tried to post this, but it didn’t seem to work. Apologies if it’s duplicated. Is there a fix to disable the stupid auto brightness adjust CABC ‘feature’ yet? I’ve spent hours trying to fix this before finding the posts on here saying what is even causing it. Inspiron 15 Series On a ranting note, I’ve used Dells for my whole career and am completely astounded at the stupidity of this latest design.

Thanks Dell. Go to Solution. The new BIOS update released yesterday, version 1. View solution in original post. The automatic brightness control should be located in the Dell Intelligent Display which is sometimes located in the Battery Management window.

Dell Inspiron 15 Usage and Troubleshooting Guide. Disable adaptive brightness to correct dim screen on a Windows 8 or Windows 10 portable device. I have looked in the Dell Extended Battery Life window found under the battery icon on the task bar and there are no options to change. There are a couple of tick boxes that seem to mess around with the power management options, but nothing I can change.

I have tried booting with safe mode turned off as it was suggested that this displayed further options, but nothing is different.

I have looked in ‘power’ on the Intel Graphics Control panel and there is very little to change. Nothing for brightness control. I have turned off ‘Enable adaptive brightness’ under display for both plugged in and on battery in the advanced power settings.

Both were already turned off, but toggling them makes no sense. I think I have covered everything that I’ve looked at. If you have any further suggestions I will be happy to try them, but this does not seem to be an isolated thing.

A quick search for adaptive brightness on your forum turns up a few threads all asking the same thing, although the last was a couple of months ago. This for example. Nickname any tip or trick that robert p mentions will not work. This is a feature called “CABC”.

Dell does not advertise this feature anywhere but you get to find out about it after buying the laptop after which you have no recourse except to hope that dell releases a fix for it. This same feature exists in the XPS line for which they have released a fix. They haven’t yet for this laptop, nor there is any communication that they plan to. When I contacted dell I was told that it’s working “as designed” and basically to deal with it.

I own the and facing the same issue. Some other poor souls going over the same issue. If you are in a location where they allow returning the laptop, do it before the 30 days from purchase date window closes. Hi Aniessh Sethh ,. I think I saw some of your responses in other posts but hadn’t seen an update on it for a month or so.

I hoped that there might have been some development from DELL since then. Before the brightness change was gradual and less noticeable, but after the update it just steps the brightness when it is changed.

Obviously there is some control available so why not let us turn it off?! All technology seems to be getting worse these days, every upgrade or new device provides more problems than improvements. Or maybe I’m just becoming a grumpy old man! Were you able to find this setting in the “Settings” tool? If so, is it not working for you? Yes, as I said in my second post, both of those options are set to off.

I did make a typo though, changing them makes no difference to what I am observing. I have noticed the same issue I have an Inspiron Browse Community.
